Just in case anyone was wondering (like me) what an ICD is, here's a description:

"An implantable defibrillator is a device made up a generator and leads that is permanently placed in the chest. The leads are fed through an artery to the heart so that the device can send electrical signals to correct an abnormal heartbeat or an electrical shock to reset a heart that is quivering instead of beating (fibrillation). It may also be called an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD)."

"Living with an implantable defibrillator means taking certain precautions. For instance, patients are advised to avoid walking through or lingering near metal detectors or any device that emits a strong magnetic field."

Are you considering having one implanted wan_lucky_sod? Hopefully someone can give you a bit of feedback.

Thanks for the reply. To explain, my name is Therese I was diagnosed with Long QT last year. Genetic tests have confirmed that I have LQTS type 1. My sister Grace is also a member of this forum and has posted our family history. Myself and Grace have been offered ICD's and are awaiting an appointment with a specialist nurse to talk things over. I would be interested to hear what people think of ICD's. I had surgery on 8th November 2006 for an I.C.D. I now have a Biotronik device implanted. So far so good, just taking things easy and following the Doctors orders. If anyone would like to talk to me about I.C.D's or indeed Long QT syndrome please drop me a line.

Just to say that myself and Therese both have these devices implanted now nearly a year. Everything is going well and we are both extremely happy that we have been lucky enough to be discovered before anything disastrous happened to either of us.

After the tragic incidents that has lead to the death of two young boys this week in Northern Ireland, i feel that I need to congratulate Bridget McAnallen for all her hard work.

I am contemplating how I am going to start off my campaign of awareness, I don't believe that enough people know about SADS, and I feel as a sufferer of LQT that it will help peoples understanding.

anyway. I hope everyone in the McAnallen family are well.
